From the Sketchbook: NYC
Actually it's that Newsprint Pad from the Kitchen That I Toted All the Way Across the Country, I Can't be Bothered with my "Real" Sketchbook Anymore
We spent a few days in New York the other week. We haven’t done much travel since the beginning of the pandemic (we used to travel a lot for book fairs), so it was nice to be in a place that not only were we familiar with, but we had nothing to do while we were there (other than see Clay’s window displays for Hermes oh la la). We saw friends, we walked a lot (a lot), we ate lots of pizza, drank some martinis—a very unscheduled trip which is just the way I like it. I guess that makes it truly a vacation?
Here are some sketchbook drawings, some drawn in situ and few others drawn from photos when we got back; all colored in hastily and digitally. I’d say the ones drawn in the moment are looser and funnier, more akin to a warm up drawing, but honestly that’s not even totally true. Sometimes that first drawing from the pen comes out great and the rest look weird!
